We started the New Year with very exciting news - a special evening soiree of music “Bohemian Nights” was held with young Tasmanian musicians and Melbourne duo Bohemian Nights who were one of the acts featured at the Cygnet Folk Festival. They played gypsy, klezmer, jazz and tango. There were tango dancing demonstrations, performances by visiting tango teachers and later in the evening dancing tango to live music. A brilliant but relaxed evening. The event was organised by one of our club members, Karen Rees.
Leigh Rogan form Tango Tambien in Melbourne and William Juzwiak (all the way from Seattle) after performing tango dancing at the Bohemian Nights event stayed on for a few days. Workshops and Private Lessons were conducted and they kindly performed at our special Club Milonga on Saturday 7th.
We have also booked Fabian and Karina Conca from Sydney for two weekends, 11th & 12th May and the other 10th & 11th August. They will be conducting workshops & private lessons on Friday evening & Saturday and our club will be holding a milonga on the Saturday evening. See under Gala Events for full details.
Tango Escape to Hobart - Friday May 25th to Sunday May 27th. The Tango Cafe is hosting a visit from the Melbourne tango community & all dancers are encouraged to participate. Saturday night a Dinner Dance is planned with the possibility of a practica on Sunday afternoon. Watch this space for more details as this exciting weekend unfolds.
